Values
I remember driving into a city in the Los Angeles area and reading a sign that said, "Welcome to _____ where times change but values don't." So true, I thought. As I reflect on my daily encounters with different people, young and old, I can not help but remember that quote. I understand that times have change, and have they, but I do no understand why our values have. Yes, technology has allowed us many freedoms that we would not be able to do like talk on the phone, but that does not mean that we have to stop respecting others. Although, now there is a Law, yes we need a law, that states that talking on the phone is not permitted, I still see many people driving and talking or texting with no regard to others driving in the same road and their safety. For young people, students in particular, the cell phone are more valuable than their education. The majority would rather be on the phone, texting and chatting than paying attention to the teacher. When did this become the focus?
I personally think the cell phone is a form of addiction.
ReplyDeletepurplepassion, I've got other addictions to worry about, like cutting the sweets out of my life. and that's hard enough.
But on a serious note, cell phones while driving is already illegal. I've looked at my iPod to change my music and see how that could be dangerous.
Although, I do think they can be an extremely positive tool for people to have but that depends on when, where and why you use it. Being attached to it 24/7 is in no way, shape or form, good for anyone!!
I tried ... exercising with it and I can't read my screen, I've tried eating with it and have made a mess on the table and on my clothes, I refuse to use it a restroom and hate when I hear people on their phones while they're in the restroom too ...
and when they're whispering ... I make sure to flush the toilet while they're in there. LOL.
I just don't think young kids who are focused on their phones instead of learning are going to be very successful. Let me get off my podium ...
Just stay away from anyone holding a phone while driving!!!
I totally agree with you. It is so interesting that on Wednesday (5/13), when I was finally able to do my blog post and responses (with the great help of my professor), I did my first post on this same topic. Besides the fact that it is very disrespectful to clog a traffic lane because one is talking on the phone or texting, people seem to forget that it is also very dangerous.
ReplyDeleteAnd as you mentioned even there are laws in California that prohibit the use of a cellphone while driving, many people seem to totally ignore these laws, the potential danger of this type of illegal activity, and the respect and courtesy that we should pay to others while on the road.
But this problem is not exclusive for the roads only. I have also seen this problem when one is standing in a line, waiting to buy or get something. Many people get distracted with their phone conversations or text messaging. Many times, these people need to be asked to keep moving forward.
